Cherner Chair

Norman Cherner studied and taught at the Columbia University Fine Arts Department and was an instructor at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1947 to 1949. At the same time he also began his practice, embarking on a lifetime exploration of multidisciplinary design.
Although best known for his furniture design, his work included almost all aspects of design: from graphics, glassware and lighting, to his pioneering work in prefabricated housing. The Cherner Arm Chair was first built in 1958, and was reissued by the sons Thomas and Benjamin in 1999. Fluted Beams LLC manufactures the complex, one piece, bent and twisted arm for the Cherner chair.

Landscape Model for Martha Swartz Partners
Martha Schwartz Partners

Landscape Architects Martha Schwartz Partners commissioned models of a section of a 60,000 sq ft curved wood decked indoor park to be built in Korea. The undulating landforms are created from solid Red Oak, bent and sculpted to create hills, valleys, rivers, waterfalls, forests, steps, and benches.  The models illustrate a yacht deck look. This is project is part of a $1.6 Billion USD Richard Rogers project in Seoul.

Drum Workshop Inc.

A completely new musical instrument is developed exclusively with and for DW Drums. Never before has a bent 1" solid hardwood shell been possible to construct. Using our proprietary engineered hardwoods to manufacture this product has allowed for an increase in pitch without the dead sound of thick glued laminations. See http://www.dwdrums.com/supersolid/ for more information on the Super Solid Snare Drum and Super Solid Edge.

What fans are saying ....

"I can whole heartedly say this is simply the best snare I have ever heard in both a live setting and a studio setting. It just does everything well! Tuned high it cracks like nothing else and tuned low it sounds really fat and full. imagine thunder and you're pretty close. It is epic!

USS Constitution uses Compwood mast hoops
Pert Lowell Co for the USS Constitution

The USS Constitution uses Compwood™ Mast Hoops in Red Oak. When steam bent parts were being made for the ship, failure rates of 80% to 90% were experienced. The failures were eliminated with Compressed Wood while increasing quality and strength of the finished product. US Departement of the Interior: National Parks: Historic Homes: Alexander Hamilton House, NY, NY.

Alexander Hamilton, the first Secratary of State of the United States, and the founder of the Bank of New York lived in a NY mansion that is now owned by the US Park Service. Undergoing a 3 year, $8 Million USD rennovation and a move to a new site, the original curving staircase was replaced years ago in a non-historic preservation. The curent preservation is rebuilding the original staircase design and having the bent stair rail components fabricated by Fluted Beams LLC. The components include a 180 degree turn, two 90 degree turns and a rising volute in custom bends, twists and profiles. All of these components have been Extreme Bent in Gig Harbor, WA from thick, solid Walnut.
